07 - 07 - 07

yessssss, that's right . . . today is 07-07-07, July 7, 2007, the 7th day of the 7th month of the year 2007 . . . just another day in the calendar, but you'd be surprised how this day has driven some people nuts. in many cultures, the number 7 (seven) is considered a lucky number, so July 7, 2007 -- 07-07-07 -- is lucky times 3, if you believe in that sort of thing.

for the superstitious type, today they'll have something to smile about. to those who believe that a triple appearance of the number 7 will bring luck, they have every reason to be smiling. most people are planning important events for today. everybody wants to get married today, hoping for a little extra dose of marital fortune. ironic as this may sound, our friend, whose wife wiped him out of their finances and left him with piles of credit card bills to pay and then left him and their 2 kids for another man, is celebrating his 40th birthday today. he was born on 07-07-67 (July 7, 1967), so where's the good luck in that? maybe his luck is being able to get rid of his social-climbing, adulterous wife, maybe that was a good thing for him and then today, on his 40th birthday, on 07-07-07, he can have his fresh start with his 2 kids.

but why is the number 7 considered to be a lucky number? why is number 7 supposed to bring good fortune? maybe because of its biblical parallelisms and references? but does numbers really control our fate? or does making ourselves believe in the positive influence of the number 7, just another way for us to have some jurisdiction over the chaotic world around us?

even Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) and Tony Parker (San Antonio Spurs) are getting hitched today in Paris. but my cousin Beth, who was supposed to get married today, has postponed her church wedding to some other day and time in the future. and yet a few other brides are insisting that they chose to get married today for a more practical reason, so that their husbands will have no excuse to ever forget their anniversary this way, ha ha!! casinos in las vegas are rolling heavy doses of sevens to attract superstitious gamblers, everything from $7 drink specials to luxury watches selling for $777. the Ritz Carlton Hotel's Central Park location in New York is offering a July 7 wedding package with a reception for 77, a seven-tier wedding cake, seven Tiffany diamonds for the bride, and a seven-night honeymoon at any Ritz in the world for $77,777. while Wal-Mart is holding a “Lucky in Love Weddings Search” and will be giving away 7 wedding packages to lucky couples that include wedding bands, invitations, cakes, a reception package, floral bouquets and a $1000 Wal-Mart gift card for the couple. OMG, can you believe that?

but i say . . . at the end of the day, whatever it is we believe in . . . let's not forget to just live life the way we've always wanted it. let's live our lives according to our needs, according to our own principles and not according to what some numbers say, not according to what other people say. LIFE is always what me make it! The choice is always up to us. We always have the option to choose wisely. I hope we all do!

Great post! I put don't put my trust in numbers. However, numbers are important like in hubby's paycheck and the budget!

Ingrid, I absolutely love, love, love your joie de vivre sign. It's wonderful....!

I am not superstitious, so I put no credence in numbers. However, I give Eva Longoria's marriage seven months, unfortunately, and then we'll be reading in the tabloids that they have split. I get the very strong feeling that she is pressuring Tony Parker into marrying her, and he is going to bolt. Just a hunch... Say, maybe I am superstitious after all.

and let's not forget on the 7th day, God rested from His labor of creating the world and man. that #7 means completion or perfection.

one of my friends got married, well it's actually yesterday now since it's already sunday, july 8th here.

my choice is to always choose wisely. sometimes i fall short, but i'm still striving and praying daily for God's wisdom and grace.
